How much do EV chargers cost?

This is one of the most common questions people ask when choosing an EV charger — how much will it actually cost to install?
The honest answer is that no two installations are exactly the same. The cost can vary depending on the property, cable run, consumer unit and any additional work required.
At TeesVolt Electrical, we've put together simple installation options to make getting a clear price as easy and affordable as possible.
Installation prices start from just £350 without the OZEV grant, or £0 if you’re eligible for the grant. This includes the installation, cable, clips and standard materials required for a typical installation.
The charger itself is priced separately, as different charger brands and models have different prices.
We offer 3 straightforward installation options, with additional extras available if your property requires them.
Take a look below to see what's included in each option and find the right installation for you.

Standard installation
Our standard installation package is designed to cover around 90% of typical EV charger installations. We’ve kept it simple and transparent, so you know exactly what’s included before you book.
For the standard installation, the following requirements apply:
-
Up to 10 metres of SWA cable included.
-
Cable installed using Invincible clips where clipped to brick walls.
-
Drilling through a maximum of 2 walls.
-
At least 1 spare fuse/MCB way available at the consumer unit/fuse board.
-
Gas and water bonding must be present and compliant.
-
Consumer unit/fuse board must be in good, serviceable condition.
-
Cable clipped to the wall at a maximum height of 2 metres and not routed underneath floorboards or inside walls.
-
A maximum of 4 hours on site.
-
Where the charger requires a cable connection from the meter, the meter must be located next to the consumer unit/fuse board. The additional cable will be securely routed alongside the main supply cable using cable ties.
-
PEN fault detection must be built into the charger where required. Most modern chargers include this feature.
-
DC RCD protection must be built into the charger. Most modern chargers include this.
-
A dedicated RCBO is not required where the existing installation provides the appropriate protection. The consumer unit must have a Type A RCD, or the charger must provide Type A + DC RCD protection.
This installation costs just £350 or £0 if you are eligable for the OZEV grant. If you have an even simpler install then it can be cheaper. Get in contact with us on 01642 942086 and we can work with you.
If we go for the Project EV, which is the cheapest charger, then your looking at only £499* with the grant. Or £849 without the grant
You can add some extras which are down below, this is in case your installation will be similar to the standard but not quite there.
Longer installation
This one is a longer version of the standard installation.
-
Upto 25m of cable
-
On site a maximum of 8 hours.
-
Getting around a few obstacles
-
A few complications in the cable route
-
Everything else is the same as the standard installation.
This one costs just £230 if you are claiming the grant plus the charger.
It's £580 if you cannot claim the grant.
it could be cheaper, but contact us on 01642 942086 to confirm.

Complex installation
If your installation doesn’t fall within our standard or extended installation packages, we’ll simply provide you with a bespoke quote based on your individual requirements.
Call us on 01642 942086 or complete the form below. In many cases, we can provide an accurate quote using photos or videos of the installation area. If we need more information, we can arrange a free site survey to assess everything in person and provide you with a clear, no-obligation quotation.
Extras
As we mentioned earlier, no two EV charger installations are exactly the same. Some installations may meet most of the requirements for our standard package but need a few additional items or a little extra work.
To make things simple and transparent, we’ve made it easy to add only the extras your installation may require.
Take a look at the options below to see the prices for each additional item. This way, you can get a clearer idea of the total cost without paying for anything you don’t need.
-
Extra mini consumer unit/ fuse bard with surge protection
-
Surge protector. This will protect your car from surges up to 40KA. A small thing to save a car from irreparable damage. You need 2 free extra ways in your consumer unit. From £60 if fitting to your current consumer unit (prices depend on your brand of consumer unit but 90% should be just around £60).
-
If your charger needs a clamp to your meter tails and you don't want a cable just tied to the main power cable, its an extra £4 per meter for a cable that uses both in 1. Your meter and consumer unit must be in the same area.
All prices include VAT. Videos or pictures must be sent when requested to verify your installation. Prices may change if its not a straightforward install.
